Zambrone
Origins
ZAMBRONE is in CALABRIA, in the heart of the COAST OF THE GODS. The village dates back to 1310 when the inhabitants of Aramoni were banished from the plateau of Monte Poro by Roberto D’Angiò and they took refuge on the coast.
According some scholars the name Zambrone is of Greek origin meaning ‘noble house of wine and oil’. In fact, the wine and oil that are produced in Zambrone have been praised in several famous works about Calabria.
The green grapes from Zambrone, called ‘zibibbo’, are particularly well known and are pressed to make an excellent dessert wine. Zambrone is a smallish village on the hilly coast at about 200m a.s.l. the inhabitants are friendly and easy-going, ready to give a warm welcome to the many tourists who choose to spend their holidays on the wonderful beaches below the village.

A gift of nature has made the coast of Zambrone rich in natural beauty, surrounded by trees, plants and flowers of all sorts, overlooking the crystal clear sea and the breath-taking views of the Aeolian Archipelago at sunset.
The most popular beach in Zambrone (sometimes called the VIP beach) is at Capo Cozzo otherwise known as the paradise of scuba divers – ‘Paradiso del sub’ –which nestles by a rocky formation that looks like a lion. A true PARADISE on EARTH with the limpid sea and the white sandy beaches it is one of the most fascinating beaches in the world and in the top 3 of Italian beaches.
Among the important local products are the famous RED ONIONS, the fine OLIVE OIL from the centuries-old olive groves, the unequalled SPICY RED PEPPER, the flavourful Zambrone WINES and the well-loved ‘NDUJA (chilli paste).
